According to Iranian media reports on December 16, 2010, the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, launched the most expensive Christmas tree in history on Christmas Eve, worth more than 11 million US dollars. This Christmas tree is 13 meters high and is located in the hotel's resplendent rotunda. There are 181 precious jewels such as diamonds, pearls, emeralds and sapphires hanging on the tree. It is reported that the Christmas tree itself is worth about US$10,000, but the value of the jewelry hanging on the tree is as high as more than US$11 million. The Emirates Palace Hotel also plans to contact the Guinness World Records Committee in the near future to discuss matters related to including this Christmas tree in the world record.
